In honor of my grandma Daly and the beautiful life she lived, I'm posting a short bit about my grandma Seele who passed away 2 years ago. I'll write something specifically on grandma Daly after I've had a chance to process and honor her.

The trailer to her movie would lead anyone to want to watch; comedy mixed with sports and romance with an occasional snippet of suspense.

If I were to give grandma a rating it would be "PG" for her poise and grace, pink and girlie, proper and generous, punctual and genuine.  She was a feel good movie filled with the perfect combination of humor and wisdom and predictable storyline.

When I rewind on her life I want to pause and replay the times she simply loved when others would have been angry.  There are no credits to fast forward through because she didn't need anyone to give her a hand.  She was an independent film maker who spent her life devoted to making the perfect film.

The music in her movie plays calmly and quietly and consistent, just like her.  Even though she wouldn't admit, she had the leading role; she never had to act, what you saw was what you got.

I give her two thumbs up, five stars, and perfect for family viewing.  Grandma, thanks for playing a leading role in my life, my husbands, kids, and everyone around you.  You earned the "Grammy" Grammy!

How Loud is Your Silence?

How loud is your silence?  The voices in my head have been screaming!  My silence is not golden.  My silence is deafening, but inaudible all at the same time.  I’m not sure what it’s saying. I hear it crying for help, chanting for freedom, taunting shame, and mocking guilt.  My silence yells me lies and covers me in deceit and deception. All this while hearing...nothing. Sometimes  it’s not what I hear, but what I don’t hear.  Its my alarm not going off for an early morning run with friends. It’s the quietness of my phone or absence a doorbell ringing. It’s the sound of a car turning into a neighbors driveway and not my own. Home is where the heart is...

Home is always on my mind, my new home, my old home, my forever home, my "never thought I'd be here home", my home away from home, big home, ugly home, awkward and too tiny home.  Ive lived in a combination of all of these places, big, small, ugly, cute, etc.  But the one commonality each of these homes is each has a piece of my heart. If the old saying goes "home is where the heart is" then my heart is all over the US and soon to be Asia.  Each move, I've left a piece of my heart, a bit of myself.
