Company Clean

The "maid" I have just doesn't seem to be cutting it lately. She does a good job keeping the surfaces clean and mostly picked up, but don't look too closely.

I want a clean house.

It used to be that every weekend I'd spend a day cleaning, like really cleaning the house--dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, mopping, etc. Then life happened, kids happened, activities started.  I'm lucky to get a whole day home at once.  The things that used to matter don't seem as big.

The irony is when I'm preparing to have guests over or someone stops by unexpectedly my house gets infinitely dirtier. The dust that seemed minimal starts to swirl like a twister on a midsummers day. As soon as the doorbell rings,  My bathrooms immediately become port a potty runner ups.  The oven, microwave and refrigerator accumulate every drip, spill and splatter.  My house that felt okay and livable somehow seems like a trip to the neighborhood junkyard.

Sometimes I don't even have to have guests step in my house.  Sometimes it's just the thought of someone stopping by or even the scroll of a photo from so and so's social media post.

So what do I do? Do I invite company into my mess?

Nope, I mean I will to an extent, but I'm not going to take you on a tour of my closet stuffed with stuff the dress I'm "going to fit into again". I won't bring you into the pantry where I store the junk I food eat way more than I should.  I'm certainly not going to offer for you to see my bathroom covered in scum.

I don't want you or anyone else to see my mess, I want to have it all cleaned up tidy before I show you around.

I know that my friends aren't coming to do the white glove test, but just in case...let me grab a mop before I let you in. I've got a lot of cleaning up to do before this house is ready for company.

I know that a true friend will grab a rag and help me dust, she'll pull up her sleeves and get in the muck along with me.  She'd even help to wipe the scum and may even find a few other places that need cleaning.

My house needs a good deep clean, a scour from top to bottom.  I'm going to invest in some good cleaning supplies, and not the ones I can buy.

Bleach and elbow grease just won't cut it this time. I'm hiring the best of the best to get this job done...my buddy (J.C.)...I know he's got the top of the line tools I'll need for the job. I wasn't "maid" for this job, but Jesus was/is...I'm so grateful I have him to lean on when things get dirty.
