Under Construction
We all want to know that the home we're sleeping in is built on solid ground, that it has a strong and sturdy foundation. When an earthquake hits, or rain come pouring down we want to say with certainty that our walls will hold firm.
Just the other day as the sun hit a wall just right, it revealed hundreds of small cracks. Im sure those cracks were from many of the mini earthquakes and shakes that this home has experienced. Although those cracks aren't visible all the time, in just the right light they look like the walls may crumble. I have to trust the experts: the architects , engineers, and carpenters who built the walls.
Despite all the planning and executing that takes place to build a home, without a solid foundation, those walls are capable of crumbling under the right circumstances. Life brings surprises and challenges, but without a solid foundation the building is just a structure. Sometimes our homes need a good spring cleaning, sometimes some renovation, and sometimes some tearing down and repairing of the walls. A good coat of paint isn't going to fix the fractures in my wall. Hanging a picture or putting furniture in front of the wall isn't going to repair the problem. Its the foundation that needs fixing. I can assure you that these walls are solid, strong and built for storms. Im certain that they've tested the best way to build and ensure our safety. Really until a storm hits, we don't know the damage that may ensue. Those tiny fractures may expose a much bigger problem.
Its like the wise man who built his house upon a rock...'when the rains came down and the floods came up, the house on the rock stood firm.' I built my house on a rock. I want to know that when the waters rise and the earth shakes, my house will stand firm. Im in a constant state of fixing it up and renovating, but my foundation remains solid as a rock.
Despite the cracks and fractures in my walls, I trust the Creator. Im grateful for the promise that assures me...who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. (Phillipians 1:6). Thankfully I know the best carpenter in history and He's staked claim on my house with a sign that reads "UNDER CONSTRUCTION."
