My New Normal

It's been a while since I've posted...probably cause I'm trying to find my "new normal." I've unpacked the boxes and hung the pictures, but still haven't found "my normal."

Normal is defined as: natural. I can tell you, my normal is naturally anything BUT normal

Normal doesn't feel like:

-moving 7 times in 13 years
-having 4 babies in 3 different states
-making  ALL new friends every year or 2
-fitting my furniture in a new place and space, not because I want to,  because I have to
- looking for a new church every year or two
-driving on the other side of the road on the other side of the world
-purging and storing 1/4 of what you own
-restocking my pantry, freezer, and cleaning supply closet with essentials annually because I had to dump/donate before my last move
-having scratches and Knicks and numbered stickers on every price of furniture I own
-watching my kids start a new school and make new friends
-pointing and hand motioning to communicate
-searching for pantry staples in a foreign language
-watching Monday night football on Tuesday morning
-searching for cheap and good produce (the two do not coexist in Japan)

This list isn't extensive.  In fact, I could tell you a million other things that don't feel normal.

Normal does feel like:

-hurt
-heartache
-anxiousness
-nervousness
-frustration
-anger
-Loniness
-Emotional
-fear
-pain
-excitement
-exhaustion
-adventure

I normally feel overwhelmed and sad and anxious...Naturally. The good, bad, and the ugly come out in my normal.

Emotions are normal in any move. Period.

I'm adjusting to my Japanese "normal," but inevitably I'll have to do it all over again in another couple years.  Until then, please be praying that someone wants to befriend my abnormal self! I'm "normally" a pretty good friend!

  1. Oh, dear Kathryn! Nothing you have experienced is normal, except your reaction to everything you have been through. I truly cannot imagine what it's like, and especially with 4 children! Just know how many prayers are said for you all, and know God has your back, as He holds you in the palm of his hand. I love you all.
