Im Watering My Lawn...

I'm watering my lawn...

Contrary to the title of this post, I'm not really a gardener and I don't have a green thumb or any green appendages.  I do admire those that can keep a perfect lawn and it's on my bucket list of things to do...learn to garden.

For now I'm choosing to water my lawn.  I have a natural tendency to longingly gaze at "the other side," their house is nicer, her clothes are stylish, his car is brand new, their kids are ____(fill in the blank with smarter, kinder, well behaved, etc). I find myself making these comparisons while leaving my own lawn to "dry out."

I've decided instead to pick up the hose, turn up the sprinkler, shake a little fertilizer and wait.  Their (the Jones') lawns didn't become green over night and nor will mine.  It takes weeks, months,  and even years to get that perfect yard.  Isn't it funny though that the closer one gets to that GREEN yard, the easier it is to find weeds? We all have them; weeds or some type of infestation beneath the surface.  I try to pull those weed as soon as they pop up, but the real problem lies below those weeds.  The weeds are an indication that something is growing, evil taking root; often things apparent to others. However those pesky little bugs that are burrowing underneath the green are really going to wreak havoc if not addressed.  It's the jealousy and envy and anger and bitterness that are overtaking and before I know it my yard is dying.  It's not just water it needs. It's a combination of water, sunlight, pruning, some weed killer and serious pest control.

I'm calling in the big guns, I've spent years of my life admiring everyone else's lawns while neglecting the real needs of my own.  I'm so grateful to have this year to tend to my garden. I have four beautiful little flowers (and a strong sturdy tree) waiting to bloom and all they need is a little fertilizer and a lot of TLC.

God has called me to really BE home this year, not just in the sense of being a stay at home mom, but to also educate, equip, lead, and love my little garden.   I really want to get those little bugs out of my own patch before they spread to the rest of my garden, these flowers are far to beautiful to be destroyed by my own infestation!

I cannot wait to see these flowers bloom, but I also know that tending to a garden is LOTS of hard work, I'm certain this gardening won't be free of cuts, scratches, thorns a  sunburn or two and the occasional beating from the elements.

Tools in hand, Im off to care for my garden!  Now go tend to your flowers!  I know they're in full bloom!

I will preserver because...

"The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields."

Luke 10:2
